The Peace Board created by United States President Donald Trump,\nwhich oversees the Gaza peace plan, has warned Hamas not to fly kites.\nHamas reacted angrily to the warning.<\/p>\n
The warning followed Israel\u2019s threat to launch retaliatory strikes\nagainst kites flown from the Gaza Strip into its territory.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll militant activity in Gaza must stop, including flying kites. We\nhave conveyed this message directly through established mechanisms,\u201d\nsaid a Peace Board official, who declined to be named, as reported by\nAFP on Wednesday (26\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cIsrael must also comply with the ceasefire. Military action must not\nexceed the limits of a response to a real and immediate threat,\u201d the\nPeace Board official stressed.<\/p>\n
Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hamas on\nSunday (23\/8) that Israel would escalate military operations in the Gaza\nStrip if Hamas launched kites, drones or balloons.<\/p>\n
The threat came after a number of kites were found crossing the Gaza\nborder into southern Israel \u2014 an area whose residents remain traumatised\nby the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023.<\/p>\n
The incident revived memories of kites and balloons fitted with\nincendiary devices that were once launched from the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
The kites recently discovered by Israel were declared not to be\ncarrying explosive payloads. However, local Israeli media reported that\nat least one kite carried a political message.<\/p>\n
Hamas Condemns Peace Board Warning: Truly Insolent!<\/p>\n
Hamas reacted strongly to the Peace Board\u2019s warning. One member of\nHamas\u2019s political bureau, Basem Naim, vented his anger over the warning,\ncalling the Trump-created Peace Board \u201ctruly insolent\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cTruly insolent! Does it make sense that an effort to please the war\ncriminal Netanyahu leads them to label the activities of innocent\nchildren as armed activity, while Netanyahu continues to kill and\ndestroy every day despite the agreement?\u201d Naim said.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Tuesday (25\/8), the United Nations called Israel\u2019s threat\nregarding the kites unacceptable. The UN said the kites in question were\nflown by children in Gaza.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding the threat of expulsion due to children\u2019s kite-flying\nactivities, I hope we can all agree that this is truly outrageous,\u201d\nstressed UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani to\nreporters in Geneva.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz previously threatened\nto carry out targeted killings and evacuate residential areas in the\nGaza Strip in response to the launching of balloons and kites from the\nterritory towards Israeli settlements.
