        "content": "<p>The Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Said Abdullah, has suggested that\nthe government listen to the aspirations conveyed by students during\nvarious protests. He stated that these demands should be followed up\nwith improvements in government policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe more wise, more prudent, the government should be open to this\ncriticism,\u201d Said said at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, 17\nJune 2026.<\/p>\n<p>He remarked that the student protests arose because of ongoing\ndeficiencies in government policy. He highlighted the governance of the\nNational Nutrition Agency (BGN), the institution responsible for\nimplementing the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are policy deficiencies, such as the governance of BGN which\nhas now become a fact,\u201d Said stated.<\/p>\n<p>The management of the MBG programme came under public scrutiny after\nthree former leaders of BGN were named suspects in an alleged corruption\ncase by the Attorney General\u2019s Office. Said opined that the government\nis beginning to make improvements through consolidation and budget\nmapping for BGN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, the government has responded, but it is unclear who is\ncommunicating this to the public,\u201d said the Chairman of the House Budget\nCommittee.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, elements of the Student Executive Body (BEM) in Jakarta\ndemanded that the government halt the implementation of the MBG project.\nDuring a demonstration around the Bundaran HI area in Jakarta on Friday,\n12 June 2026, they also demanded the construction of Koperasi Desa Merah\nPutih (Red and White Village Cooperatives).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to calling for the cessation of the MBG project and the\nKoperasi Desa Merah Putih, the BEM alliance from Jakarta campuses urged\nthe Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration to stop\nwasting the state budget (APBN).<\/p>\n<p>They further demanded that the government lower the prices of staple\ngoods and fuel, halt the militarisation of civilian domains, and called\non Prabowo to stop evading responsibility and admit mistakes in the\npolicies made by the government.<\/p>",
