PDIP elite Deddy Sitorus has launched a sharp critique of Democrat\nParty Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) over his statement asking\nPDIP to continue providing constructive criticism despite being outside\nthe government. Responding to this, Deddy asked AHY not to incite and to\nrespect the political stance taken by PDIP.<\/p>\n
AHY spoke about PDIP\u2019s position at the DPR building in Senayan,\nJakarta, on Monday (22\/6). AHY said he respected PDIP\u2019s position because\nhis own party had also been outside the government. According to him,\nevery party has its own interests regardless of its position.<\/p>\n
\u201cI respect all political parties that have certain stances and views.\nEveryone has an agenda, everyone has interests, but let us place our\ncommon and national interests above partisan interests,\u201d AHY said.\n\u201cDemocrats certainly have interests and goals, and we have also been in\nopposition, we have been the ruling party, so it can be said that\nDemocrats have a complete set of experiences and track records. We are\ngrateful for all of that. Each, of course, comes with different\nconsequences and challenges,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development\nsaid that if a party is in the government coalition, its role must be to\nensure the smooth running of government programmes. Conversely, he said,\nwhen in opposition, it must provide constructive criticism and must not\ndivide the nation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen in opposition, of course, there is an interest in providing\nviews, even criticism, but it must be constructive and must also come\nwith solutions,\u201d AHY stated. \u201cIt must not divide the nation, nor\ndiscredit as if everything is wrong. But when there is something that is\nindeed correct and represents the aspirations of the people, the\ngovernment also listens, the government must also be willing to conduct\nevaluations and so forth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
AHY assessed that oversight and balance are also important and\nnecessary in a democratic country. AHY entrusted a message to the Head\nof the Democrat Faction, Eddhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, known as Ibas, to\noversee matters from the DPR. \u201cChecks and balances are also necessitated\nin a democracy, whatever the political choice or electoral regime\nchoice. Deddy initially spoke about the numerous accusations against PDIP of\nbeing the mastermind behind demonstrations, and parties questioning\nPDIP\u2019s position inside or outside the government. Deddy brought up that\nPDIP was even accused of being the mastermind of demos in 2025. \u201cBack in\n2025, we were also accused of being the mastermind of demos. Now we are\nalso accused of being the mastermind of demos. Well, these accusations\nrefute themselves. In 2025, not a single PDI Perjuangan person or anyone\nlinked to PDI Perjuangan was legally processed by the authorities. So,\nit is automatically refuted by the facts,\u201d Deddy said at the parliament\ncomplex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (23\/6).<\/p>\n
The Chair of the PDIP Central Executive Board revealed the same thing\nis happening again in 2026. He said one PDIP cadre, Andi Widjajanto, is\nbeing accused of being the demo mastermind. \u201cNow it is the same. Andi\nWidjajanto is being accused. Even a coordinating minister like AHY\nspeaks, saying don\u2019t incite,\u201d he said. \u201cThis once again proves that\nbeing outside the government always makes one an easy scapegoat,\u201d he\ncontinued.<\/p>\n
He assessed that the accusation against Andi Widjajanto has no legal\nbasis and is only based on assumptions. According to him, the parties\nquestioning PDIP\u2019s position are motivated by dissatisfaction within the\ngovernment\u2019s own circles. \u201cI see in the case of why other parties are\nmaking noise about PDI Perjuangan\u2019s position, this is most likely\ndissatisfaction among themselves regarding their position within the\ngovernment, or perhaps they want more attention from the president, I\ndon\u2019t understand,\u201d he said. \u201cBut this is proof that they are just making\nnoise, in my opinion, without supporting facts,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, he did not take issue with the many accusations against\nhis party. According to him, the student actions occurring are a pure\nmovement and not engineered. \u201cI think someone said, \u2018what doesn\u2019t kill\nyou makes you stronger\u2019, right? So go ahead and accuse PDI Perjuangan.\nWe see for ourselves how public sentiment has actually become positive\nbecause they see that what the students are voicing is the genuine truth\nin their minds, not a baseless fabrication for student actions,\u201d he\nexplained. \u201cBecause it is almost impossible to orchestrate massive\ndemonstrations across Indonesia just by doing or pushing certain\nparties. This is purely from the students,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Deddy asked the government coalition political parties to listen to\nthe students\u2019 aspirations. He asked them not to make PDIP a scapegoat to\nblame. \u201cThe students\u2019 demands are not being responded to, instead it is\nspreading to PDI Perjuangan becoming a scapegoat.
