        "content": "<p>PDI security guards queried as witnesses<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): City police summoned six security guards of the<br>\nIndonesian Democratic Party (PDI) camp loyal to Megawati<br>\nSoekarnoputri yesterday in their capacity as witnesses to the<br>\nbloody attack on the party&apos;s headquarters on July 27, 1996.<\/p>\n<p>Trakelin Brahmana, lawyer for the men, identified them as<br>\nBambang Setiabudi, Soni Chandra, Thomas Resmon, Didik Budiharto,<br>\nNaman bin M. Nur and Anton Sogo Hayono.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the 3.5-hour cross-examination yesterday,<br>\nTrakelin said police decided to first question Bambang, Naman and<br>\nAnton, with the other three scheduled for questioning today.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;During the questioning, police gave 13 questions to each<br>\nwitness to verify the acts of arson, destruction, assault and<br>\nabuse against Megawati supporters at PDI headquarters on Jl.<br>\nDiponegoro 58, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Police also asked about the chronology of the takeover and<br>\nthe whereabouts of the security guards when the incident<br>\nhappened.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The six were among PDI&apos;s 124 security guards who were arrested<br>\nin the July 27 incident.<\/p>\n<p>All 124 were sentenced to four months&apos; imprisonment for<br>\nignoring police orders and refusing to disperse under Article 218<br>\nof the Criminal Code.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is possible that police will summon the whole group to be<br>\nquestioned as witnesses in the incident,&quot; Trakelin added.<\/p>\n<p>The guards testified yesterday that they saw Butu Hutapea, the<br>\nsecretary-general of the PDI faction affiliated with government-<br>\nendorsed Soerjadi, inciting and leading the mob in the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman vowed<br>\nyesterday to continue the investigation into the July 27<br>\nincident.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Please wait for further results of our examination. We are<br>\nnow gathering facts and trying to reveal the truth.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But please do not ask me about what happened two years ago. I<br>\nwas not the chief back then,&quot; he said.
