PDI rebels refused<\/p>\n
SEMARANG, Central Java: Chief of the Regional Military
\nCommand, Maj. Gen. Soeyono, refused to meet with members of the
\nIndonesian Democratic Party (PDI) yesterday.<\/p>\n
The PDI rebels who have broken away from the leadership of
\ndemocratically-elected Megawati Soekarnoputri wanted to report to
\nhim on the formation of local rival executive boards.<\/p>\n
\"I don't have any business with the party rebels,\" he told
\njournalists. He reiterated the government's policy of recognizing
\nonly the leadership of Megawati.<\/p>\n
He said the military would help the PDI resolve its problem of
\ninternal bickering if the party asked for assistance. \"They
\nshould try to solve their own problem and if they give up and
\nneed us, we can intervene,\" he said. (har)<\/p>",
