PDI Perjuangan should be
\ncritical of itself<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-Perjuangan)
\nhas just ended its three-day meeting, agreeing on some important
\npoints, including the renomination of its chairwoman, Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri, as president in the 2004 general election.<\/p>\n
Would she make it? Let us see. However, one of the party's
\ncadres, Kwik Kian Gie, gave a yellow light, saying that the party
\nwould be destroyed because it is corrupt.<\/p>\n
He was referring to party cadres who are in the legislative
\nassembly and in executive positions, who take advantage of their
\nposts to further their own or their group's interests.<\/p>\n
PDI-Perjuangan is already different from the old one. The
\nparty's figures have become powerful. Whether the country would
\nbe in a better or worse situation is determined by its cadres
\nsitting in strategic positions.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately until now, Megawati has yet to make substantial
\nchange. The crisis has even prolonged, and corruption, collusion
\nand nepotism have been thriving.<\/p>\n
Given this situation, the party decided to renominate
\nMegawati. That is all right. However, it should be remembered
\nthat PDI-Perjuangan has become a powerful party. The real work
\nof Ibu Megawati to improve the people's welfare and to promote
\nthe well-being of the nation are most important. -- Republika,
