PDI Perjuangan probes bribery case<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
\nPerjuangan) has summoned all its legislators on the House of
\nRepresentative Commission IX on finance to clarify bribery
\nallegations.<\/p>\n
After the weekly party meeting led by chairwoman Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri on Tuesday, party deputy chairman Mangara Siahaan
\nsaid the summons was sent to follow up on reports of alleged
\nbribery.<\/p>\n
\"We will also summon Kwik Kian Gie who has made public
\nstatements about the case,\" Mangara said, referring to the State
\nMinister of National Development.<\/p>\n
The bribery case was revealed last week when several
\nlegislators from PDI Perjuangan admitted they were offered money
\nby the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) during the
\nsale of a state-owned bank.<\/p>\n
The statement came from defiant members of the party,
\nincluding Indira Damayanti Sugondo, who has tendered her
\nresignation from the party, and Meilono Soewondo.<\/p>\n
Mangara also said the board considered the statements from the
\nlegislators questionable as Meilono was among a group of
\nbusinessmen who made an offer on one of IBRA's assets.--JP<\/p>",
