In East Java<br>\ntwo leaders have emerged. One is Latief Pudjosakti who was<br>\nelected through a voting procedure by a formative team of eight<br>\nmembers.<\/p>\n<p>The other is Soetjipto who was appointed by the Central Board<br>\nof Executives in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The election of Pudjosakti was a culmination of rows and<br>\nconflicts existing between groups within the party.<\/p>\n<p>This development shows that Megawati's leadership is not<br>\nstrong enough to influence Pudjosakti. But it is not fair to<br>\njudge the quality of Megawati's leadership in the context of the<br>\nincidence in East Java, because she took to the helm of the party<br>\nwhen PDI was already at the point of collapse.
