PDI-P executive on shortlist for top position at Telkom<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Dimyati Hartono, senior executive of the
\nIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuanagan), and
\npresident of satellite operator PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara Adi
\nR. Adiwoso are among the 10 candidates to head publicly listed PT
\nTelkom Indonesia, a source said here on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Assistant to the state minister for investment and state
\nenterprises development, Benny Pasaribu, said his office was
\nstill selecting the best candidate to replace A.A. Nasution, who
\nends his tenure in April.<\/p>\n
Benny said that in addition to the 10 candidates, the
\ngovernment was also preparing 40 others to fill the positions of
\ndirectors and commissioners in several other state-owned
\ncompanies, including international telecommunications provider PT
\nIndosat.<\/p>\n
\"We have 50 candidates to be examined for the positions. We
\nwill apply fit and proper tests on them ... The 50 names will
\nlikely be announced on Monday so that we can see the market's
\nreactions to them,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the market's reaction was one of the most important
\nfactors to be considered in the selection of the eligible
\ncandidates, especially for the position of president.<\/p>\n
According to a new policy on the recruitment processes for
\nstate-owned companies' board directors, prospective appointees
\nwill have their track records -- including possible involvement
\nin corruption, collusion and nepotism -- educational background,
\nwork experience as well as suggestions from the public examined
\nby a special team.<\/p>\n
\"The eligible candidate for company president should be
\nmarket-friendly and have a good reputation in the industry that
\nthe company is focusing its operations in,\" Benny said.<\/p>\n
He said that the poor development of Telkom's stock price in
\nthe market over recent years was partly due to the fact that
\nTelkom's current president Nasution was not popular in the
\nmarket.<\/p>\n
Benny said the results of the tests on the ten candidates for
\npresident of Telkom were expected to be discussed by shareholders
\nat the company's extraordinary meeting scheduled for April 7.<\/p>\n
The government has twice asked Telkom to hold an extraordinary
\nmeeting to appoint a new president. Telkom's management, however,
\nhas always rejected the demand, arguing that the government has
