        "content": "<p>PDI legislator pressured to quit<\/p>\n<p>SEMARANG: About 2,000 supporters of Megawati Soekarnoputri<br>\ngathered in front of the provincial legislature here yesterday to<br>\ndemand the senior Indonesia Democratic Party (PDI) member resign<br>\nhis seat.<\/p>\n<p>\"Soemario has to resign, because almost all of the branch<br>\nheads of Soerjadi's PDI faction in Central Java have already<br>\nstepped down with some branches even disbanding themselves,\"<br>\nMardijo, a local pro-Megawati leader, said during the<br>\ndemonstration.<\/p>\n<p>\"(Central Java) Governor Soewardi must be firm. The pro-<br>\nSoerjadi camp has no supporters and everyone in Central Java<br>\nrecognizes this,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Soerjadi overthrew Megawati as PDI chief in a government-<br>\nbacked congress in 1996. Megawati, however, maintains that she is<br>\nstill the rightful leader of the party.<\/p>\n<p>Since the resignation of Soeharto in May, Megawati's<br>\nsupporters have been seizing branch offices formerly occupied by<br>\nSoerjadi's followers.
