The statutes and by-laws of an organization are sometimes
\ninterpreted differently by individual members of the
\norganization. PDI (Indonesian Democratic Party) is an example.
\nThe conflicting groups have different interpretations of their
\nstatutes and by-laws. Government officials have also reacted
\ndifferently over the split within the party. Some openly support
\nthe group which wants the congress to take place, some give their
\nsupport in an implicit manner, and others just shrug and say :
\n\"That's their own business.\"<\/p>\n
But none of the political supervisors try to persuade the two
\nconflicting groups to sit at the same table to talk over and
\nsettle their differences in line with the spirit of Pancasila. In
\nfact, PDI, like the other political parties, is an asset to the
\nnation, and should remain united.<\/p>\n
The absence of positive guidance by the political supervisors
\nconfuses not only the party members but also the wider Indonesian
\nand global communities.<\/p>\n
I do not belong to PDI. But I can clearly see which are
\ngenuine leaders, and which are only opportunistic in nature.
\nNevertheless I still have confidence that the government will be
\nable to handle the PDI case wisely, by not siding with either of
\nthe factions. Should the government side with either side,
\ncomplete disintegration of PDI would become inevitable. This
\nwould have strong repercussions all over the country.<\/p>\n
