PBSI to send Hendrawan, Arbi to the Malaysia Open<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): World champion Hendrawan and former world
\nchampion Hariyanto Arbi have been added to the Badminton
\nAssociation of Indonesia (PBSI) list to compete at the five-star
\nMalaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur next month.<\/p>\n
PBSI plans to send 22 shuttlers for the July 17 to July 22
\nevent, including world championships semifinalist Taufik Hidayat,
\nRony Agustinus, Budi Santoso and Johan Hadikusuma.<\/p>\n
In the women's singles, PBSI is likely to send Lidya
\nDjaelawidjaya, Yuli Marfuah, Chindana Hartono and Ellen Angelina.
\nMen's doubles Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto will compete in
\nthe men's doubles along with Budi and Johan, who will play
\ndoubles for the first time, and juniors Alvent Yulianto and
\nHendra Gunawan.<\/p>\n
The women's doubles of Vita Marissa and Etty Tantri will be
\nbacked up by juniors Rossi Riani and Diah Novita and another
\npair, Eny Erlangga and Novita.<\/p>\n
In the mixed doubles, PBSI will send Bambang Suprianto and
\nMinarti Timur; Nova Widhianto and Vita Marissa; juniors Alvent
\nYulianto and Eny Erlangga; and Hendra Gunawan and Novita.<\/p>\n
PBSI secretary-general Leo Chandra Wiranata said on Friday
\nthat some old hands, including Hariyanto, Ellen and Chindana,
\nwould compete at their own expense.<\/p>\n
\"We're only facilitating them to play abroad,\" Leo told
\nAntara.<\/p>\n
Training director Christian Hadinata said those names were
\nstill nominations and could be changed.<\/p>\n
\"The nominations were made based on the coaches'
\nrecommendation. Everything could still be changed before the
\ndrawing,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Christian said he had yet to hear information on the new
\nscoring of the best-of-five games, with seven points in each game
\nto be applied in the Malaysia Open and Indonesia Open.<\/p>\n
\"If the International Badminton Federation (IBF) applies the
\nnew scoring system, the players must warm up longer. They need
\nmore than just stretching and jogging.<\/p>\n
\"They must be more prepared. When competing for 15 points in a
\ngame, a player can still catch up even when he's down 0-5. But
\nthe new system forces players to concentrate more.\"<\/p>\n
However, Christian said Indonesian players were training using
