"summary": "Indonesia's buy now pay later (BNPL) industry has experienced explosive growth, with outstanding loans reaching Rp 56.3 trillion by February 2026, an 86.7% year-on-year increase that far outpaces conventional consumer credit. While fintech lending and digital banking dominate this expansion, growing 21 times faster than credit cards, the sector faces significant risks from high non-performing loan (NPL) rates exceeding 5% since 2023. This rapid rise highlights both opportunities and challenges in Indonesia's digital finance landscape, potentially impacting financial stability if bad debts continue to escalate.",
