Patients throng Alternative Healing House in Purworejo<\/p>\n

PURWOREJO, Central Java (JP): A young lady from Jakarta was
\nshocked when her doctor told her that the only way to save her
\nlife was to remove the tumor inside her womb. And that means the
\nfetus she was carrying, which would be her first born, have to be
\n\"sacrificed\".<\/p>\n
At the height of her despair, she visited Father Handoyo
\nLukman in Purworejo, Central Java. A Catholic priest, Father
\nLukman is an expert in alternative medicine. He decided that the
\nyoung lady would need no operation.<\/p>\n
Through a healing process that uses the Magnetis Radiesthesi
\n(Magnetic Radioaesthesis) method and complemented by a tonic made
\nof herbs concocted by Father Lukman himself, the tumor inside the
\nlady's womb disappeared.<\/p>\n
The fetus in her womb also grew normally and she gave birth to
\na healthy baby. She named her baby Lukman Yunior, after the
\npriest, in appreciation of his great service.<\/p>\n
The photograph of Lukman Yunior and his parents is now on the
\nwall of The Alternative Healing House on Jl. Sudirman, Purworejo.
\nThe photograph of Yunior's family is surrounded by the
\nphotographs of other children who were born thanks to the help of
\nthe healers at the Alternative Healing House, chaired by Father
\nLukman.<\/p>\n
Father Lukman and his team in this center have also
\nsuccessfully enabled childless couples who have been married for
\na long time to have at least a child of their own.<\/p>\n
Other patients with different complaints ranging from simple
\nailments to serious diseases like cancer, have been cured at the
\nAlternative Healing House by the healers who have been trained by
\nFather Lukman. Many have also come for help to find a life
\npartner.<\/p>\n
In fact, many businesspeople have come to seek ways to make
\ntheir businesses more profitable or to curb work place accidents.<\/p>\n
The Alternative Healing House is under the Romo Loogman
\nFoundation. It was inaugurated by the then Regent of Purworejo H.
\nGoernito on July 2, 2000. There has never been such a great
\nAlternative Healing House in Indonesia. It took Father Lukman a
\nlong time before he could see his plan for an alternative healing
\ncenter materialize.<\/p>\n
Father Lukman acquired the alternative healing expertise using
\nthe Magnetic Radioaesthesis method by accident. This Dutch-
\nIndonesian missionary was stationed as a priest in Purworejo in
\n1974. Amid his priestly activities, he managed to visit many of
\nhis church members who were ill. Most of them were villagers who
\ndidn't have enough money to buy medicines. He also visited the
\nsick who were of different religions.<\/p>\n
\"For us, illness has nothing to do with religion. We are open
\nto anybody,\" said J. Purwo Dwiatmodjo, deputy director of the
\nAlternative Healing House.<\/p>\n
Strongly motivated to help his fellow people, Father Lukman
\nbegan to diagnose diseases with a ballpoint while at the same
\ntime writing down its prescription from the herbs that were
\neasily found in the yard. Many of his patients were cured. Ever
\nsince then, people from many places came to see him.<\/p>\n
As Father Lukman's patients increased, his church activities
\nbegan to be disrupted. Fortunately a local businessman by the
\nname of Tjio Oei Biauw allowed Father Lukman to use the second
\nfloor of Jaya Hotel, that he owned, as a \"hospital ward\". More
\npatients began to come to this new place. To cope with ever
\nincreasing number of patients, Father Lukman began to train a
\nnumber of people in this healing method of Magnetic
\nRadioaesthesis.<\/p>\n
As his practice continued to develop and thanks to the support
\nand help of others, Father Lukman's alternative hospital that he
\nwas long dreaming of eventually came true.<\/p>\n
The hospital was built on Jl. Gen. Sudirman, Purworejo. It was
\nequipped with various facilities like a spacious parking lot, a
\nwaiting room and a Musholla (a place where Muslims perform their
\nreligious duties).<\/p>\n
When the Alternative Healing House was established it was
\nbeset with problems. First Father Lukman's practice room was
\ninvaded by thousands of dog fleas ( kutu anjing ). Then many of
\nLukman's assistants began to suffer from headaches for unknown
\nreasons.
\nIt was suspected that these disturbances were caused by people
\nwho were worried that their businesses might decline because of
\nthe healing house,\" said Purwo Dwiatmodjo.<\/p>\n
According to Purwo, the Magnetic Radioaesthesis healing
\ntechnique is not the same as alternative healing practiced by
\npsychics. In this technique the negative effects of the earth's
\nradiation are neutralized by a device called the neutralizer.
\nThere are 11 kinds of neutralizers beginning from those made from
\nordinary metals to gold. These neutralizers can be planted in the
\nground in the home area or work area belonging to the patient or
\ncan be worn by the patient.<\/p>\n
Farther Lukman and his staff have also succeeded in creating
\n47 kinds of capsules, 17 kinds of boiled jamu (tonic made of
\nmedicinal herbs) and 66 different kinds of medicine that use
\nherbs as its basic ingredient. One of father Lukman's assistants,
\nLiliana Indrajaya, handles the production of jamu in Bogor, West
\nJava.<\/p>\n
Purwo said the Alternative Healing House is merely offering an
\nalternative if conventional medicines fail. According to Purwo,
\nmedical therapies and the Magnetic Radioaethesis method are
\ncomplementary.
\nThe House is open to patients on Mondays and Tuesdays. On these
\ntwo days the House's waiting room will most likely be packed with
\nhundreds of patients.<\/p>\n
\"As every member of the staff works hard for two consecutive
\ndays, they are given off on Wednesdays,\" Purwo explained.<\/p>\n
Thursdays are when letters from patients are answered.
\n\"Nevertheless, if there are patients who come on unscheduled
\ndays, we won't turn them away,\" Purwo added.<\/p>\n
The house is open on Fridays from 2 p.m to 5 p.m. Meanwhile,
\nSaturdays are reserved for benefactors. \"They have helped us a
\ngreat deal. So, it is fair to give them a special service,\" Purwo
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Despite the many patients, the management of the Alternative
\nHealing House resists the temptation to commercialize it. Their
\nmain objective is to do social service. In line with their
\nobjective, patients are only charged Rp 6,000, which includes the
\ncost of the medicines they receive.<\/p>\n
\"We will also consider the patient's economic background. If
\nthey are poor and unable to pay, we will waive the costs,\" Purwo
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
In fact, if there are poor patients who require medical
\nattention, the Alternative Healing House will help refer them to
\nthe Panti Rapih Hospital in Yogyakarta. The Romo Loogman
\nFoundation will pay for all their expenses. \"We remain committed
\nto serving the people and are not interested in turning this into
\na profitable business,\" Purwo said.<\/p>",
