The current armed conflict in Cambodia,<br>\nwhich threatens to develop into a full-scale civil war,<br>\ndemonstrates that for the present that country is unable to<br>\nsustain its national stability. The prevailing political crisis<br>\nin Myanmar indicates that the national stability of this<br>\nprospective ASEAN member is still unstable.<\/p>\n<p>If admitted as ASEAN members, the precarious situation in<br>\nthese countries would be a threat to ASEAN's regional stability.<br>\nIt is therefore appropriate that Cambodia -- and also Laos and<br>\nMyanmar -- demonstrate their ability to sustain their stability.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN's achievements have been most impressive and should be<br>\nfostered further.
