Semarang (ANTARA) - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) has demanded an\n8.5-year prison sentence for the inactive Regent of Pati, Sudewa, the\ndefendant in a case involving alleged corruption in projects at the\nDirectorate General of Railways (DJKA) and the recruitment of village\nofficials in the regency.<\/p>\n
During the trial at the Semarang Corruption Court on Monday,\nprosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also\ndemanded that the defendant pay a fine of Rp300 million, which, if\nunpaid, will be replaced by 100 days of imprisonment.<\/p>\n
In their indictment, the prosecutors stated that the defendant was\nproven guilty of violating Articles 12 (b), 12 (B), and 12 (E) of Law\nNumber 31 of 1999, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the\neradication of criminal acts of corruption.<\/p>\n
In the detailed indictment, prosecutors stated that the defendant was\nproven to have abused his authority and position as a member of\nCommission V of the DPR from 2021 to 2022, as well as during his tenure\nas the Regent of Pati.<\/p>\n
Regarding the alleged DJKA corruption case, prosecutors assessed that\nthe defendant was proven to have received bribes amounting to Rp1.3\nbillion, as well as gratifications in the form of money and goods with a\ntotal value of Rp2.3 billion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was close cooperation between the defendant and parties within\nthe DJKA to manipulate tenders so that they were won by companies\npredetermined from the outset,\u201d the prosecutor stated during the session\npresided over by Chief Judge Edwin Pudyono.<\/p>\n
Three other defendants in the case\u2014the Village Heads of Karangrowo,\nSukorukun, and Arumanis\u2014are alleged to have extorted several village\nofficial candidates, with evidence amounting to Rp2.4 billion seized by\nthe KPK.<\/p>\n
In their considerations, prosecutors assessed that the defendant\u2019s\nactions have damaged public trust in the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI) and local government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe defendant does not admit to his actions,\u201d the prosecutor\nnoted.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors also demanded an additional penalty for the defendant to\npay state losses amounting to Rp3.6 billion in restitution, which, if\nunpaid, will be replaced by three years of imprisonment.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the prosecution requested that the judge revoke the\ndefendant\u2019s right to be elected to public office for five years, to be\nserved after the completion of the primary sentence.<\/p>\n
