Passport forgery investigated<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Directorate General of Immigration is
\ncurrently investigating passport forgery practices allegedly done
\nby people linked to the exportation of labor to Saudi Arabia, an
\nofficial said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Director General M. Mudakir said the passport forgery
\npractices were uncovered when representatives of 10 labor
\nexporting companies processed visas for 35 passports at the Saudi
\nArabian Embassy recently.<\/p>\n
When documents were checked, the embassy employees found there
\nwas conflicting data and photographs of the passport holders, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"The Saudi Embassy therefore stopped processing the visa
\napplications and also terminated cooperation agreements with the
\nlabor exporting firms,\" Mudakir said in a statement made
\navailable to The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He explained the following investigation at the special
\nimmigration office showed the data and photos of the passports
\nhad all been changed.<\/p>\n
\"The change of data and photos was believed to have been done
\nafter the passports were issued by the special immigration
\noffice,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He also believed a certain party used the same integrated
\npassport processing machine like the ones owned by the
\nimmigration office.<\/p>\n
Mudakir said that a thorough investigation was currently being
\ndone. As soon as the illegal practices are uncovered, the law
\nenforcers were expected to take stern action against perpetrators
\nin line with existing regulations, he said.(hhr)<\/p>",
