PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has opened the option for refunds for
passengers affected by the landslide on the Maswati–Sasaksaat line in
West Bandung Regency on Wednesday (1/4/2026). This option arises from
the landslide incident that caused several train journeys to experience
delays, with some even being cancelled. Manager of Public Relations for
KAI’s Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, stated that passengers who do not
continue their journey can cancel their tickets via the application or
at station counters. KAI is also providing compensation to passengers
who experience delays. The compensation is in the form of food and
drinks in accordance with service provisions. “KAI provides Service
Recovery (SR) to customers affected by delays, in the form of mineral
water, light snacks, or heavy meals,” he said. The travel disruption is
a result of the landslide that covered the railway track in the West
Bandung area with soil. This condition has impacted journeys to and from
Jakarta. Several trains on the Jakarta-Bandung route were reported as
cancelled, while others experienced delays. It is known that the Kereta
Api 174 Ciremai derailed after the locomotive of the train struck
landslide material covering the track on Wednesday afternoon. The
incident occurred on the Maswati-Sasaksaat (MSI-SKT) section,
specifically in Kampung Galudra, Mandalasari Village, Cikalongwetan
Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java, around 14:53 WIB.
“Indeed, there was a train derailment. The locomotive hit the landslide
material that happened to cover the rails, resulting in the derailment,”
said Chiko (27), a witness and local resident, when confirmed. Several
moments before the incident, the Cikalongwetan and Cipatat areas
experienced heavy rain, causing landslides at several points. “One of
them was the landslide at the railway crossing. The material covered the
rails, and shortly after, the train entered and hit the landslide,”
Chiko explained. The KA Ciremai that derailed was a train travelling
from Purwakarta towards Bandung. “The landslide point is a few metres
from the tunnel. So, it was just a few metres before the train entered
the Sasaksaat tunnel,” said Chiko. “There were no fatalities or injuries
in this incident. Our personnel immediately carried out handling at the
location to ensure safety is maintained,” stated Anne in an official
statement received by Kompas.com.
",
