Pasaraya Manggarai expanded to 10 stories<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Retail company ALatieF Corp has targeted a sales
\ngrowth of 50 percent at its newly renovated Pasaraya Manggarai
\nshopping center in South Jakarta next year, company president
\nUsman Ja'far said Saturday.<\/p>\n
Usman said the number of floors of the shopping center,
\nformerly known as Pasaraya Young and Trendy, had been expanded
\nfrom five to 10 with an investment of Rp 160 billion (US$32
\nmillion).<\/p>\n
He said in terms of size, the building's space grew from
\n17,000 square meters -- when it was built in 1986 -- to 48,000
\nsquare meters.<\/p>\n
\"With the wider space we are confident we can reach our target
\nnext year despite the current economic crisis,\" Usman said at a
\nsoft opening ceremony of the shopping center.<\/p>\n
He also said that his shopping center was surrounded by newly
\nbuilt apartments in the Casablanca area of South Jakarta and
\nMenteng in Central Jakarta<\/p>\n
A survey, conducted by Survey Research Indonesia, shows that
\n40 percent of Pasaraya's customers are foreign tourists and
\nexpatriates.<\/p>\n
\"Therefore, despite the monetary crisis, foreigners will still
\nspend their dollars because our merchandise has become cheaper,\"
\nUsman said.<\/p>\n
The company had cooperated with the Hilton to give free-of-
\ncharge taxi rides to tourists to the shopping center. The
\ncooperation agreement would later be extended to other hotels in
\nthe city, he added.<\/p>\n
In the future, the shopping center was expected to take
\nadvantage of the city's plan to build an integrated terminal in
\nthe area, which would be called Terminal Terpadu Manggarai, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Usman said the shopping center provided a wide variety of
\nproducts needed by customers, including household utensils,
\ndomestic and international foods, national and international
\nbrand garments, handicrafts, sports equipment and electronic
\ngoods, in line with its motto \"One Stop Shopping\".<\/p>\n
He said the shopping center was also equipped with a fitness
\ncenter and a large parking lot.<\/p>\n
ALatief Corp was founded by Abdul Latief, who is also the
