Pasar Jaya to open wholesale center<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city-owned market company, PD Pasar Jaya,
\nwill open a wholesale center next year.<\/p>\n
Company director Soedrajad Soeleman said yesterday that the
\nwholesale center will be located on a one-hectare plot of land in
\nEast Jakarta.<\/p>\n
He said that the plan is based on Provincial Decree No. 7\/1992
\nwhich allows the company to diversify its business, which the
\ngovernor has been encouraging.<\/p>\n
\"We chose wholesale because it is a lucrative business,\"
\nSoedrajad said.<\/p>\n
\"There are not many wholesale centers in the city and the
\nbusiness is growing fast here,\" he said, adding that Makro and
\nGoro are the only two big wholesale centers in the city.<\/p>\n
He also said several investors have shown interest in
\ncooperating with PD Pasar Jaya in its wholesale endeavor.<\/p>\n
However, he said, \"the management has not decided yet if it
\nwill invite investors in or not.\"<\/p>\n
Soedrajad said that the center will not be run by
\nprofessionals and not by PD Pasar Jaya employees.<\/p>\n
PD Pasar Jaya was established 29 years ago by the city
\nadministration to build and manage markets in Jakarta. It has
\n265 markets throughout the city with a total of 80,000 traders.
