        "content": "<p>Party leader denies his death<\/p>\n<p>TEMANGGUNG, Central Java: As tension runs high ahead of this<br>\nweek's election, the seriously ill local chief of the United<br>\nDevelopment Party (PPP), PM Imron, rose from his hospital bed to<br>\ndeny rumors that he had died.<\/p>\n<p>Attempts by government officials and lower party functionaries<br>\nto deny the rumors had fallen on deaf ears until an ingenious<br>\nbureaucrat suggested broadcasting an interview with Imron.<\/p>\n<p>The interview was broadcasted by the local government radio<br>\nstation and relayed by local commercial radio stations last week.<br>\nEventually, the public believed Imron was still alive.<\/p>\n<p>In the interview, Imron told party supporters that he was<br>\ngetting better and that they should not resort to violence during<br>\nthe campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Imron was stabbed a day after supporters of the Moslem-based<br>\nPPP and Golkar clashed on the town's streets.<\/p>\n<p>He also told party supporters that, when he recovered, he<br>\nwould go on a spiritual journey to seek his attackers and make a<br>\nmystical settlement with them.
