        "content": "<p>Parties to dominate local elections<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The House of Representatives' commission deliberating<br>\nthe revision of the Local Autonomy Law will likely bar<br>\nindependent figures from directly contesting  gubernatorial,<br>\nmayoral and regental elections, a lawmaker says.<\/p>\n<p>Legislator Firman Jaya Daeli from the Indonesian Democratic<br>\nParty of Struggle (PDI-P) faction said on Sunday that if the idea<br>\nfloated recently was adopted, then independents would only be<br>\nable to contest such elections if they were nominated by a<br>\npolitical party. The idea, which Firman said was supported by all<br>\nfactions in the House, was aimed at creating effective and strong<br>\ngovernment, said Firman.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected that the revised Local Autonomy Law will be<br>\nendorsed before House legislators conclude their five-year terms<br>\nin September. - JP<\/p>",
