Parties not to mobilize supporters<\/p>\n
BANDUNG (JP): In a bid to avoid chaos during next month's
\nannual session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR),
\nNational Police chief Gen. Rusdihardjo has asked political
\nparties not to mobilize their supporters.<\/p>\n
\"We have set adequate security plans to secure the session,
\neven to cope with the worst-case scenario,\" Rusdihardjo announced
\nafter closing a nationwide training course for police chiefs at
\nNational Police Staff and Command School (Sespim Polri) in
\nLembang here on Friday.<\/p>\n
\"Therefore I urge all party leaders to avoid a 'show of force'
\nby deploying mass numbers of supporters which could further
\ntrigger unrest,\" the four-star general said.<\/p>\n
A total of 28,270 troops are set to secure the session. Nine
\nthousand five hundred will come from the police, 2,900 from the
\nmilitary and 12,000 from Kamra civilian militia.<\/p>\n
Rusdihardjo said other problems that could trigger unrest
\nwould be avoided, such as a fuel shortage in several cities,
\nincluding Jakarta. Rusdihardjo said that state oil company
\nPertamina had asked the police to escort fuel deliveries to avoid
\nstock piling.<\/p>\n
\"It is obvious that there are certain parties who want to
\nspoil the situation and take advantage of it,\" he said without
