Parties fail to notify police of rallies<\/p>\n
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: With the election campaign beginning
\non Thursday, few political parties have yet to notify the police
\nhere where and when they will be campaigning.<\/p>\n
As of Wednesday, only 16 political parties had notified the
\nMataram mayoralty police of the campaign schedules, and only two
\npolitical parties had notified the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB)
\nprovincial police.<\/p>\n
Adj. Comr. Tribudi Pangastuti, spokeswoman for the NTB police,
\nsaid she regretted that most political parties had not provided
\nthe police with information on their campaign schedules.<\/p>\n
She said the police had the authority to ban parties from
\ncampaigning if they failed to provide notification to the police.<\/p>\n
\"But we will not immediately ban them or break up their
\nrallies. We will ask them first why they did not notify the
\npolice prior to the campaign period. If they disrupt public order
\nduring the campaign, we will certainly prohibit them from
\ncampaigning,\" she said. -- JP<\/p>",
