        "content": "<p>Parties down to nitty-gritty on vote sharing<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Parties contesting the polls continued on<br>\nWednesday to seek partners for vote-sharing deals, with Islamic<br>\nand nationalist-secular parties approaching those already in<br>\ntheir folds.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Party (PUMI), Anwar<br>\nYunus, was quoted by Antara as calling on other Islamic parties<br>\nto unite for the betterment of the Muslim community.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Let&apos;s fight the moral degradation here with strong unity<br>\namong us,&quot; he said at a campaign rally on Tuesday in East<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Eight Islamic-based parties including the United Development<br>\nParty (PPP) and the Justice Party (PK) entered into an agreement<br>\non Sunday to apportion extra votes to the biggest winners among<br>\nthem to provide them with more legislative seats.<\/p>\n<p>The other parties involved in the deal are the Crescent Star<br>\nParty (PBB), the Muslim Community Awakening Party (PKU), the<br>\nNahdlatul Ummat Party (PNU), the Islamic Community Party (PUI),<br>\nthe Indonesian Masyumi Islamic Political Party (PPIM) and the<br>\nIndonesian Syarikat Islam Party-1905 (PSII-1905).<\/p>\n<p>Another stembus akoord deal was reached between the Indonesian<br>\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), Justice and Unity<br>\nParty (PKP) and National Awakening Party (PKB) with seven<br>\nnationalist-secular parties.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wayan Sudarmadja, one of the PKP leaders, the<br>\nseven are Murba Party, the Independent Nationalist Party (PKM),<br>\nPeople&apos;s Choice Party (Pilar), the Independence Vanguards Party<br>\n(IPKI), MKGR Party, the National Labor Party and the Indonesian<br>\nNational Party (PNI led by Supeni).<\/p>\n<p>The secretary-generals of PDI Perjuangan, PAN, PKB and PKP<br>\nwere scheduled to meet Wednesday night for further discussions on<br>\nthe arrangement between the four parties.<\/p>\n<p>Wayan said on Wednesday it was hard to gather all party<br>\nleaders at a venue at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The flight of Hayono Isman (PKP&apos;s secretary-general) is<br>\nscheduled to arrive at 7 p.m. from Nias, while Faisal Basri (of<br>\nPAN) was still busy campaigning at the Hotel Indonesia traffic<br>\ncircle late this afternoon.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>PKB&apos;s Iskandar Muhaimin and PDI Perjuangan&apos;s Haryanto Taslam<br>\nare scheduled to join the meeting later.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted the final arrangements of the stembus akoord were<br>\nsigned by the seven smaller parties.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But the four (major) parties (PDI Perjuangan, PKB, PAN and<br>\nPKP) have yet to sign it. There is a dispute over whether to<br>\nannounce it as an &apos;11-party deal&apos; or &apos;four-and-seven&apos; parties,&quot;<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Another deal has been struck among leaders of the Indonesian<br>\nDemocrats Alliance Party (PADI), the Love the Nation Democratic<br>\nParty (PDKB) and the Indonesian Unity in Diversity Party (PBI).<\/p>\n<p>PDKB leader Midian Sirait told a news briefing on Wednesday<br>\nthe agreement was made to ensure there would not be any wasted<br>\nvotes.<\/p>\n<p>He was quoted by Antara as saying that the parties involved<br>\nalso discussed presidential candidates, and agreed they would not<br>\nname anyone from &quot;status-quo parties&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The party will officially name its final candidate during its<br>\ncongress on July 3 to July 4.<\/p>\n<p>The General Elections Commission stipulates all vote-sharing<br>\npartnerships must be announced by Friday.
