        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com \u2013 A member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian\nHouse of Representatives, Maman Imanulhaq, has urged that the\nperpetrator of the molestation of a santriwati by a kiai figure at a\npesantren in Pati, Central Java, be given a heavy sentence. According to\nhim, this incident constitutes a serious crime.<\/p>\n<p>The politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB) assessed that\nthe molestation of a santriwati is a serious sexual crime due to the\npower relation, namely between teacher and student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe perpetrator must be processed to the maximum extent of the law,\nincluding with aggravated punishment in accordance with the TPKS Law.\nThere must be no compromise, mediation, or \u2018internal resolution\u2019,\u201d Maman\ntold Kompas.com on Tuesday (5\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, he advocated for a total evaluation of the pesantren.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pesantren is an educational institution with a significant role\nand must not be punished indiscriminately due to an individual\u2019s\nactions. However, if negligence is proven, a flawed system, or other\nmanagers are involved, the state is obliged to freeze or revoke the\noperational permit,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>He also stressed that in this case, the focus should not only be on\nthe perpetrator but also on the recovery of the victim, both\npsychological, legal, and social.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChild protection standards that must be applied in all religious\neducational institutions,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The case of sexual violence and molestation involving a kiai at a\npesantren in the Pati area has been investigated by the police.<\/p>\n<p>The victim\u2019s legal adviser, Ali Yusron, stated that the number of\nvictims could reach 30 to 50 santriwati.<\/p>\n<p>He revealed that the majority of the victims come from vulnerable\nbackgrounds, from orphans to impoverished families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is like the tip of the iceberg. One victim who dares to speak\nout can open up dozens of others,\u201d said Ali Yusron.<\/p>\n<p>The police have named one suspect and ensured that the legal process\ncontinues even though some victims have withdrawn their reports.<\/p>\n<p>For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 76 letter E in\nconjunction with Article 82 of the Child Protection Law, with a minimum\npenalty of 5 years and a maximum of 15 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, Article 6 letter C in conjunction with Article 15\nparagraph (1) letter E of Law Number 12 of 2022 on Criminal Acts of\nSexual Violence (TPKS), with a maximum penalty of 12 years\nimprisonment.<\/p>",
