Parking ticket perforation will be postponed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The head of the City Revenue Office, Fauzie
\nAlvie Yasin, said yesterday that due to technical problems his
\noffice was still unable to carry out a gubernatorial decree
\nrequiring parking tickets to be perforated.<\/p>\n
An article of the decree, which was issued on Feb. 14,
\nrequires his office to perforate parking tickets to check that
\nparking taxes received are consistent with the number of tickets
\nissued. Now, not all parking tickets are perforated, especially
\nthose issued by the management of the privately-owned buildings
\nwhich manage their own parking lots.<\/p>\n
\"The problem is that we do not have an integrated perforating
\nsystem,\" Fauzie said.<\/p>\n
Fauzie said he realized that his office would not be able to
\nperforate all the parking tickets distributed in lots throughout
\nthe city if it stuck to the method it presently uses.<\/p>\n
When asked whether he had informed parking attendants about
\nthe decree, Fauzie said,\"Later, we will inform them and train
\nthem how to collect parking fees effectively.\"<\/p>\n
Before informing them, according to Fauzie, it is necessary to
\ncount how many parking attendants are operating in the city as
\nwell as the number and the exact capacity of all the city's
\nparking lots.<\/p>\n
For that purpose, Fauzie said, his office will develop a pilot
\nproject which is planned for August of next year.<\/p>\n
There will be one pilot project for each of the city's five
\nmayoralties. Fauzie said that, in carrying out the project, his
\noffice will cooperate with the mayors' office, the city public
\norder bureau, the city spatial planning office and the bureau for
\nthe development of the city's economy.<\/p>\n
Parking fees serve as one of the main sources of the city's
\noriginally earned income with the number of vehicles registered
\nat around 2 million.<\/p>\n
Last year, however, the City Revenue Office received Rp 8
\nbillion (US$3.7 million) in parking taxes, falling short of its
\nRp 9 billion target.<\/p>\n
In response to Fauzie's announcement, Helmy A.R. Syihab, the
\nchairman of the City Council's Commission C on finance and
\neconomy, said he was disappointed over the delay in carrying out
\nthe decree.<\/p>\n
\"This delay might give the impression that the decree was not
\nimplemented because the present 'leakage' in tax collections was
