The Pariaman City Government in West Sumatra is targeting repairs to\neight irrigation systems damaged by hydrometeorological disasters at the\nend of 2025 to be completed by September 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cMuch of the agricultural infrastructure in Pariaman has been\ndamaged, but Alhamdulillah, for this initial stage we in the\nagricultural sector have received around one billion rupiah in funding,\nprioritised for repairing the eight damaged irrigation systems,\u201d said\nIsmadi, Head of the Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation Division at\nthe Pariaman Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency, on Friday.<\/p>\n
He said the irrigation repairs, funded through central government\ntransfers to the regions, have shown significant progress and are\nprojected to be completed in the near future. Most of the physical\nirrigation work has already exceeded 70 percent.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur target is that by the end of August, or at the latest the first\nweek of September, all physical work will be finished,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the irrigation systems suffered damage ranging from broken to\ncollapsed structures. The damaged irrigation systems are spread across\nthree sub-districts: North Pariaman, Central Pariaman and East\nPariaman.<\/p>\n
The damage to the irrigation structures had disrupted water supply to\nfarmers\u2019 rice fields, with a total affected area of 200 to 300\nhectares.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe impact of this damage has been felt significantly by farmers.\nFor example, in the Mangguang area, the irrigation damage directly\naffected 20 to 30 hectares of rice fields,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Before the physical repairs began, farmers in the field worked to\nmaintain water availability through their own efforts using makeshift\nmaterials, such as stacking sandbags to connect water flows so that the\nplanting season would not come to a complete halt.<\/p>\n
With the completion of the infrastructure work in September, the\nPariaman City Government hopes that water distribution to rice fields\ncan return fully to normal so that community agricultural activities are\nno longer hindered.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Pariaman City Government in West Sumatra recorded\nthat as of early August 2026 it had realised approximately Rp19.5\nbillion, or 21.1 percent, of the Rp92.4 billion in central government\ntransfers returned for repairing infrastructure damaged in the area by\nthe hydrometeorological disasters late last year.<\/p>\n
