Parents oppose planned market<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Hundreds of parents in Bekasi, West Java protested
\nFriday against a plan to build a market on 4,000 square meters of
\nland next to Pedurenan I elementary school in Mustikajaya
\nsubdistrict.<\/p>\n
The parents argued that the market would have a negative
\nimpact on the learning process and health of their children
\nstudying at the school.<\/p>\n
\"We strongly oppose the planned market as garbage from the
\nmarket will spread stench to the school and could spread various
\ndiseases among students,\" exclaimed Siti Fatimah, one of the
\nparents.<\/p>\n
The protest came after parents spotted a large announcement
\nboard saying that a market would be established in the area.<\/p>\n
Supporting the protest, chairman of Bekasi Municipal Council's
\nCommission B for economic affairs Mulyanto said that the market
\nwould have a negative impact on the learning process in the
\nschool.<\/p>\n
According to Antara news agency, the market would be built and
\nmanaged by PT Berlian Elang Surya Perkasa.<\/p>\n
Head of the Mustikajaya subdistrict Giyono, however, said that
\nhe had no information about the plan to build a market in the
