Panwaslu reports election violations to police<\/p>\n

The official Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) has
\nreported violations in the recent presidential election to
\npolice, including mass voter mobilization at Al-Zaytun Islamic
\nboarding school in Indramayu, West Java.<\/p>\n
Deputy chairman Rozy Munir said the Panwaslu had handed over
\nall pertinent information to police for investigation into the
\nviolations.<\/p>\n
He said violations included an excessive number of ballot
\nstations. For example, an area that was assigned to have 20
\nstations had 83 poll stations instead.<\/p>\n
In regards the Al-Zaytun incident, he said the committee had
\nfound several indications that voters mobilized there in support
\nof Golkar presidential candidate Wiranto had violated the
\ncountry's Criminal Code.<\/p>\n
\"We discovered that some voters had two voter's cards and cast
\ntwo separate votes -- at Al-Zaytun and at a secondary venue. We
\nalso found that many voters were underaged,\" Rozy said.<\/p>\n
Thousands of people were allegedly mobilized to vote for
\nWiranto-Solahuddin at Al Zaytun, where the number of voters had
\nswelled from about 12,000 in the April 5 legislative election to
\nnearly 25,000 voters at the July 5 presidential election.<\/p>\n
General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Nazaruddin
\nSjamsuddin said on Tuesday the commission was set to invalidate
\nvotes from 83 poll stations that had been set up at Al-Zaytun.<\/p>\n
\"We will heed the decision of the West Java General Elections
\nCommission (West Java KPUD), as what transpired at Al-Zaytun fell
\nunder their jurisdiction,\" Nazaruddin said at a press conference.<\/p>\n
Since the KPU did not have complete information on the Al-
\nZaytun incident, it would summon the West Java and Indramayu
\nKPUDs before finalizing the annulment, he added.<\/p>\n
A meeting with regional election commissions is scheduled for
\nThursday.<\/p>\n
KPU member Mulyana W. Kusumah said in response to the KPUD's
\ndemand, the central commission would only recognize the same
\nnumber of eligible votes as was cast in the April election.<\/p>\n
\"In the presidential run-off, eligible votes will number
\n11,565, not 24,818 as in the July 5 poll,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the General Elections Commission had said no rulings
\nwere breached in the registration of additional voters at the
\nIslamic boarding school, and had even suggested that no vote-
\nrigging took place.<\/p>\n
Rozy said the Panwaslu would file an official report with
\npolice after Thursday's plenary meeting.<\/p>\n
Aside from the Al-Zaytun case, Panwaslu found violations in
\nthe delible ink used to mark voters in many regions.<\/p>\n
\"Regional Panwaslu members have reported the case to the
\npolice, that the ink was gone only a minute after the voters left
\npoll stations,\" said Rozy.<\/p>\n
He said the delible ink was found at poll stations in Aceh,
\nWest Sumatra, East Java, Banten, West Java, Jakarta, Maluku, East
\nNusa Tenggara and Papua.<\/p>\n
National Police deputy chief of detectives Insp. Gen. Dadang
\nGarnida confirmed on Tuesday that many violations had occurred
\nduring the presidential election.<\/p>\n
\"We received a report from the Panwaslu that many crimes
\noccurred during the election. For example, the committee said
\nmany ballot papers in Timika, Papua, had actually been punched
\nbefore election day,\" said Dadang.<\/p>",
