Panwaslu official attacked in Batang<\/p>\n

The deputy chairman of Batang regency's Election Supervisory
\nCommittee (Panwaslu), Agus Triono, 32, was assaulted by four
\nunknown assailants at dawn on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to Agus, the incident began when he was riding his
\nmotorcycle on his way to Kalisasak housing complex where he lives
\nfrom the Panwaslu office in Batang regency. Suddenly four men
\nstopped him on a street somewhere between his office and his
\nhouse.<\/p>\n
Two of them approached him and hit him in the face. \"When I
\nfell down, and blood covered my face, they left me immediately,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Agus had to have several sutures for the cut on his forehead
\nand complained of headache. He could not identify the assailants
\nas they wore full-faced helmets. He did not even understand the
\nmotive behind the attack.<\/p>\n
Agus is being treated at Kalisari General Hospital.<\/p>\n
The chairman of Central Java Panwaslu, Nur Hidayat Sardini,
\nwho visited Agus at the hospital, commented that the perpetrators
\nhad no respect for the law enforcer.<\/p>\n
\"Those kind of people do not deserve to live in this country,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
He believed that the attack was related to his duty as an
\nPanwaslu official. \"The case must be investigated thoroughly as
\nit has set a bad precedent,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Separately, Batang Police chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Edy
\nSunarijanto Setyo, promised to track down the culprits. So far,
\nhe said, he had called 13 witnesses for information regarding the
\ncase.<\/p>\n
