Panic button service<\/p>\n
I would like to comment on news that the Jakarta Police have
\nteamed up with a private company to provide panic button
\nservices. Jakarta residents must be familiar with the phrase:
\n"Nothing's free in Jakarta". Even to pee in public toilets we
\nhave to pay.<\/p>\n
Now the Jakarta Police plan to set up a Panic Button System to
\nprovide premium security services for people who are willing to
\npay more. While some view this as a new innovation of the police
\nto serve the public, others fear that it would be seen as a
\ncommercialization of their public service duty.<\/p>\n
To me, and other ordinary people who cannot afford to pay that
\nmuch, the system would only make our daily life more insecure.
\nLogically the police would be more focused on serving those who
\npay.<\/p>\n
I cannot see this system as an improvement of police security
\nservices for the people at large. On the contrary, this could
\nmean less service for us and more for panic button subscribers.
\nPlease don't forget, people who do not join the program also pay
\ntaxes. So please serve and protect us too.<\/p>\n
