PanAsia Paper inks contract<\/p>\n
Singapore (Dow Jones): Singapore's PanAsia Paper Co., a major
\nnewsprint producer in Asia, said on Monday it has inked a three-
\nyear contract to supply up to 42,000 metric tons of newsprint a
\nyear to Singapore Press Holdings Ltd.<\/p>\n
"This is a significant agreement given that the newsprint
\nsituation worldwide is very volatile," according to a PanAsia
\nPaper press release quoting Andre M.J. van Hattum, its president
\nand chief operating officer. "It shows both PanAsia Paper and SPH
\nare bullish about the future of the newspaper industry."<\/p>\n
PanAsia Paper said that it has a "well-established"
\nrelationship with SPH and that the deal is the "largest contract
\nthe two parties have signed."<\/p>\n
Noting that long-term supply agreements are "relatively rare"
\nin the newsprint industry in Asia, the contract "signals the
\nconfidence of SPH in our product quality and delivery
\ncommitment," said van Hattum.<\/p>\n
PanAsia Paper said the newsprint involved in the deal will be
\nsource from its mills in South Korea.<\/p>",
