PAN supporters ditch campaign stop<\/p>\n
MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: About 1,000 supporters of the National
\nMandate Party (PAN) abandoned a PAN campaign rally held on Friday
\nat the Bumi Tamalanrea Permai field in Makassar city.<\/p>\n
The supporters initially flooded the field at 1 p.m and
\nlistened attentively to the PAN campaigners, who spelled out the
\nparty's programs.<\/p>\n
But the supporters apparently grew bored with the speeches and
\nbegan leaving the field on motorcycles and in cars. They then
\ntook part in a PAN convoy through the city.<\/p>\n
There have been similar occurrences at campaign rallies for
\nother political parties, signaling that many people are not that
\ninterested in a party's programs, instead preferring street

Council building deserted during campaign<\/p>\n
SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: The East Kalimantan provincial
\ncouncil building on Jl. Karang Paci here was deserted on Friday,
\nthe second day of the election campaign, as most of the
\ncouncillors were busy on the campaign trail.<\/p>\n
Only administrative staffers were seen in the office.<\/p>\n
"Most of the councillors are busy campaigning or holding
\nmeetings with their constituents. However, they have promised
\nthat they will come into the office," said Effendy, a commission
\nsecretary for the council.<\/p>\n
The last council meeting was held several days ago, when the
\ncouncillors discussed the provincial budget. However, only 21 out
\nof the 45 councillors attended the meeting, Effendy said.<\/p>\n
Sugeng Haryadi, a political observer, lashed out at the

Parties fail to inform KPU of campaigns<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Local journalists questioned on Friday the
\npreparations of political parties for the election campaign in
\nYogyakarta.<\/p>\n
"I doubt whether the political parties were ready to campaign.
\nIt is the second day of the campaign, but the political parties
\nhave not yet informed poll organizers where they will campaign
\nand who their campaigners will be," said Yuyuk Sugarman, a local
\njournalist.<\/p>\n
A similar concern was raised by a member of the Yogyakarta
\nmayoralty's Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu), Agus
\nTriyatno.<\/p>\n
He said many political parties had yet to inform the
\nYogyakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) of their campaign

JAYAPURA, Papua: Maybe they were nervous or just overly
\nemotional, but two campaigners for the Indonesian Democratic
\nParty of Struggle (PDI-P) had a difficult time pronouncing
\n"aspiration" during a campaign rally at Trikora field in
\nJayapura.<\/p>\n
Rosiati Anwar, a legislative candidate for the party, took
\nthree times to get the correct pronunciation of "aspiration".<\/p>\n
"Brothers and sisters, vote for PDI-P because this is the
\nonly party that fights for the people's aspira ... aspira ...
\naspirations," she said.<\/p>\n
The crowd was quick to jump on her slip of the tongue with a
\nround of boos.<\/p>\n
Similar trouble was experienced by Frans Siriwa, another PDI-P

Supporters demand T-shirts

\nSURABAYA: Several participants of a campaign rally for the
\nIndonesian Unity Party (PPD) complained on Friday that they were
\nnot given T-shirts by party officials.<\/p>\n
The T-shirt-less rally participants shouted at party officials
\non stage at the Gelora Deltras Stadium in Surabaya.<\/p>\n
"We need T-shirts," they said.<\/p>\n
The shouts did not produce any T-shirts but they certainly
\ndisrupted the campaign.<\/p>\n
Some of the participants abandoned the rally when it became
\nobvious that party officials were not going to produce the
