PAN chief faces axe for crime<\/p>\n
PALU, Central Kalimantan: Chairman of the National Mandate
\nParty (PAN) in the Central Sulawesi regency of Tolitoli, Mohammad
\nArief Muluk, is facing the possibility of dismissal after the
\nlocal district court found him guilty of issuing a fake diploma
\nto one of his students.<\/p>\n
Deputy chairman of PAN's provincial chapter Basir Nursin told
\nreporters on Monday that Arief's firing was almost certain for
\nbringing disrepute to the party and the local legislature.<\/p>\n
\"His misconduct has tarnished the party's image as well as his
\nown. As a councillor he should have been a role model for the
\npeople,\" Basir said.<\/p>\n
The Tolitoli District Court sentenced Arief recently to six
\nmonths' probation for the crime, which surfaced when one of his
\nstudents was registering to sit for a senior high school final
\nexam.<\/p>\n
Arief was the principal of a local Islamic junior high school
\nrun by the Muhammadiyah Muslim organization when he issued the
\nfake diploma for his student, who failed to pass the school's
\nfinal exam several years ago.<\/p>\n
\"The case has been submitted to the PAN central board of
