        "content": "<p>Palu prosecutor gunned down<\/p>\n<p>Ruslan Sangadji and Irvan NR, Palu<\/p>\n<p>In the latest mystery shooting in Central Sulawesi, a prosecutor<br>\nwho dealt with terrorism cases was gunned down in the provincial<br>\ncapital of Palu, his wife and police said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry Silalahi was shot dead at around 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday<br>\nin his car outside the residence of lawyer Thomas D. Ihalaw on<br>\nJl. Swadaya in Tana Modindi neighborhood, South Palu.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry and his wife were just leaving the house after attending<br>\nevening Mass, Palu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Noman Siswandi<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry's body was laid out on Thursday at his home on Jl.<br>\nMayjen Sutoyo, East Palu, before it was flown to Jakarta on<br>\nFriday.<\/p>\n<p>Noman said unidentified gunmen shot the prosecutor several<br>\ntimes, shattering the windshield of his car. Ferry died<br>\ninstantly, and the autopsy showed the weapon used was an<br>\nautomatic rifle.<\/p>\n<p>The victim's wife survived the attack, as she had quickly<br>\njumped out of the car, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Police are hunting down the gunmen, who are believed to have<br>\nfled to the eastern part of Palu after the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Noman said officers had identified the killers, but declined<br>\nto release their identities in the interest of the ongoing<br>\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n<p>\"I promise to thoroughly investigate the case, because<br>\notherwise it will ruin the authority of law enforcement,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Central Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office head I Made Yasa said a<br>\ngroup of terrorists was behind the murder, but declined to<br>\ncomment further, as he still in mourning over the death of his<br>\nsubordinate.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ferry's wife, Yulia, four gunmen on two<br>\nmotorcycles had carried out the attack. She said they had dark<br>\nskin and long hair.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, she said she had seen<br>\nsimilar men walking around outside her house.<\/p>\n<p>She added that a neighbor said men with similar traits had<br>\nbought an earring at a nearby kiosk.<\/p>\n<p>The neighbor said only one of the men, who all looked<br>\n\"spooky\", had talked to the vendor.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry had been working in Palu for over a year, and like other<br>\nprosecutors, he dealt with dozens of cases, including those on<br>\ncorruption and terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent terrorism cases he had prosecuted were those<br>\non Bali bombing suspects Firmansyah, Fajri and Aang Hasanuddin.<\/p>\n<p>Firmansyah and Fajri were sentenced to five years for aiding<br>\nand abetting another Bali bombing suspect, Achmad Roichan, while<br>\nAang was jailed for three years for not informing police of the<br>\nactivities of the other two.<\/p>\n<p>An appellate court ordered on May 11 that the convicts be<br>\nreleased from detention, but Ferry and prosecutor Syahrul Alam<br>\nhad appealed the court order, and were awaiting a Supreme Court<br>\nruling.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry also assisted in trying a major corruption case against<br>\nAmbo Dalle, director of the Central Sulawesi village cooperatives<br>\ncenter, which involved billions of rupiah.<\/p>\n<p>During his tenure at the Tangerang Prosecutor's Office in<br>\nGreater Jakarta, Ferry prosecuted Ang Kim Soei, who was sentenced<br>\nto death in 2003 for operating an Ecstasy laboratory, reported to<br>\nbe one of Southeast Asia's largest such facility.<\/p>\n<p>Palu is some 200 kilometers from the Central Sulawesi regency<br>\nof Poso, which has recently experienced a string of attacks by<br>\nunidentified gunmen.<\/p>",
