JAKARTA – The management of the palm oil industry is deemed
increasingly strategic in supporting national energy security amid
rising needs for alternative energy and pushes for domestic
downstreaming. In addition to being a flagship export commodity, palm
oil is now seen as having a crucial role in sustaining biodiesel
development and strengthening the national economy.

This emerged during an audience between Laurencus Pakpahan, Chairman
of Pandu Ekologi Indonesia (PENA), and the President Director of PT
Agrinas Palma Nusantara in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday
(13/5/2026). The meeting discussed the management of palm oil
plantations as part of the national agenda for food and energy
self-sufficiency.

“We discussed how palm oil management serves as one strategic step to
support national food and energy initiatives promoted by Mr Prabowo,”
said Laurencus.

He stated that the management of palm oil plantation assets must be
carried out productively and oriented towards national interests.
According to him, optimising palm oil management can have broad impacts
on strengthening community economies while supporting Indonesia’s energy
independence.

Laurencus also assessed that the steps taken by PT Agrinas Palma
Nusantara demonstrate seriousness in strengthening downstreaming and the
national palm oil industry.

“What Agrinas Palma Nusantara has done so far shows seriousness in
making palm oil not just an export commodity, but also a strategic
instrument for Indonesia’s energy independence,” he said.

Amid increasing needs for renewable energy, the palm oil industry is
said to hold an important position in national biodiesel development.
Therefore, plantation management is deemed necessary to be conducted
professionally, transparently, and based on cross-sector
collaboration.

In previous occasions, the board of directors of Agrinas Palma
Nusantara has emphasised the company’s focus on strengthening crude palm
oil (CPO) production, palm oil downstreaming, and biodiesel development
as part of the national energy security agenda. The company is also
building cooperation with various ministries, research institutions,
cooperatives, and business actors to strengthen governance and
productivity in the palm oil industry.

In addition to promoting downstreaming, the company is developing
cooking oil for the people and B100 biodiesel as part of a long-term
strategy to strengthen the utilisation of domestic resources for
national energy needs.

Laurencus assessed that this policy direction shows that the palm oil
industry is no longer viewed merely as a plantation sector, but as part
of the country’s grand strategy to strengthen energy and food
sovereignty.

“Going forward, what is needed is consistency and collaboration. The
state, companies, and society must work together so that Indonesia’s
vast palm oil potential truly benefits the people,” said Laurencus.
",
