The Commander of Kodam XXII\/Palaka Wira, Major General TNI J Binsar\nPerluhutan P Sianipar, has placed soldiers on standby to anticipate\nforest and land fires (karhutla) in the territorial area of the regional\nmilitary command.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe forest and land fire that occurred on Mount Barako, Poboya\nVillage, Palu City on Saturday evening (22\/8) has drawn our attention,\nand we are taking part in handling it,\u201d said J Binsar Perluhutan P\nSianipar in Palu on Sunday.<\/p>\n
He explained that monitoring is being carried out using drones to\ndetermine the condition of hotspots that still have the potential to\nemerge and spread.<\/p>\n
From this monitoring, the commander confirmed that handling efforts\nand personnel readiness are running optimally.<\/p>\n
In addition to conducting aerial monitoring, a number of Kodam\nXXIII\/Palaka Wira soldiers have been placed on standby at the location\nto anticipate the development of forest and land fires.<\/p>\n
\u201cPersonnel together with relevant elements continue to carry out\nmonitoring and take swift action if new hotspots are found. We have also\nplaced all fire engines within the Kodam XXIII\/Palaka Wira command on\nstandby,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He stated that this readiness is part of the command\u2019s efforts to\nassist local governments in handling forest and land fires resulting\nfrom climate change (El Ni\u00f1o).<\/p>\n
The commander stressed the importance of speed in detecting and\nhandling every hotspot, given that wind conditions and terrain in hilly\nareas can cause embers to reignite.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are committed to efforts to handle forest and land fires in the\nCentral Sulawesi and West Sulawesi regions through aerial monitoring and\npersonnel readiness,\u201d said Binsar.<\/p>\n
Previously, Palaka Wira soldiers were assigned to join in handling\nforest and land fires in Donggala Regency on Thursday (20\/8) together\nwith the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), fire service and\npolice personnel.<\/p>\n
