        "content": "<p>Painting stolen <br>\nfrom exhibition<\/p>\n<p>A painting has been stolen from an exhibit at the Stage <br>\nrestaurant at the Ratu Plaza shopping center in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Michael, the manager of the Stage, told YThe Jakarta Post late <br>\nlast week that the stolen painting, entitled Grandma Moses Goes <br>\nto the Tambora, was one of many works by an American artist <br>\nnicknamed Tompel on display at the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit continues through April 20.<\/p>\n<p>Michael said the theft occurred last Friday afternoon, when <br>\nthe electricity was out.<\/p>\n<p>He said he had no idea who had stolen the artwork valued at Rp <br>\n300,000 (US$140), which had just been marked sold. (jsk)<\/p>\n<p>Surjadi ends slum<br>\nupgrading program<\/p>\n<p>In a weekend ceremony at the Ujung Menteng subdistrict office <br>\nin East Jakarta, Governor Surjadi Soedirdja announced the <br>\ncompletion of the slum upgrading program started last year.<\/p>\n<p>The citywide urban renewal program was initiated as part of <br>\nnationwide activities for last year&apos;s National Social Solidarity <br>\nDay, which began on Dec. 20.<\/p>\n<p>The program provided social services, public facilities and <br>\nrepaired and upgraded housing for the people living in the least <br>\ndeveloped areas of the capital.<\/p>\n<p>The Solidarity Program was expected to promote a feeling of <br>\ntogetherness and to motivate individuals to take part in <br>\nactivities which involve the livelihood of many.<\/p>\n<p>Of the more than Rp 4.5 billion spent on the rehabilitation <br>\nprogram, Rp 1.5 billion was contributed by the central <br>\ngovernment, Surjadi said. The rest was obtained through community <br>\nparticipation and donations from businessmen.<\/p>\n<p>There are 11 subdistricts in Jakarta which fall under the <br>\ncategory of least developed areas. One is in Central Jakarta, two <br>\nare in West Jakarta and eight in North Jakarta. (06)<\/p>\n<p>Police capture<br>\nmurder suspect<\/p>\n<p>The Cakung police arrested a food shop owner late last week on <br>\ncharges of killing a thug.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Tjokorde Suyasa, chief of the Cakung police, said Friday <br>\nthat the murderer suspect, Wito Handoyo bin Samaun, 25, was <br>\narrested at 2 a.m. at his home, which also functions as a shop.<\/p>\n<p>Wito, a resident of Rawa Teratai subdistrict, Cakung district, <br>\nEast Jakarta, has been charged with killing Ahmad Zaini, 24, who <br>\nlived in the same neighborhood on March 4.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad&apos;s body was discovered early in the morning amid <br>\nshrubbery on Jl. Raya Bekasi in front of the Pulau Gadung Steel <br>\nfactory, close to a truck terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Police initially suspected he had been stabbed to death by one <br>\nof the truck drivers working there. Ahmad, who claimed to <br>\nsupervise and protect the area, was known to have extorted money <br>\nfrom the truckers frequently.<\/p>\n<p>Police later discovered clues which led them to shift their <br>\nsuspicion to Wito.<\/p>\n<p>During interrogation, Wito said he had taken vengeance upon <br>\nAhmad for all the terror and hassle the thug had imposed on him <br>\nfor so long. Abang<\/p>\n<p>It is nearly impossible to introduce a one-way traffic policy <br>\nin Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, because there are too many <br>\nstreet traders on the roads, says a city official.<\/p>\n<p>Making a bad situation worse, both drivers and passengers do <br>\nnot have the discipline to adhere to a one-way traffic <br>\nregulation, said J.P. Sepang, the head of the City Land <br>\nTransportation and Traffic Control Office over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Sepang said he plans to couple one-way traffic in Tanah Abang <br>\nwith the reduction of the number of the city&apos;s traffic lights <br>\nbecause these have the potential to engender congestion, which <br>\nprompts drivers to violate a one-way traffic policy.(06)<\/p>",
