        "content": "<p>Painters plunge to their deaths<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Four workers were killed yesterday afternoon at<br>\nthe Aryaduta hotel on Jl. Prapatan in Central Jakarta, when the<br>\nplatform carrying them plummeted from the top floor of the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The four workers were identified as Solihin, Jeffri and<br>\nAbdullah, from Brebes in Central Java, and Nawir, a married man<br>\nfrom Purwodadi in Central Java.<\/p>\n<p>The four 20-year-olds worked for PT Painting Contractor, which<br>\nis now repainting the facade of the 17-story hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The accident reportedly happened at 1:40 p.m., just after they<br>\ngot their lunch.<\/p>\n<p>The gondola carried them to the top floor and then fell.<\/p>\n<p>The Gambir police have no clue why the platform collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are just beginning the investigation. The case will be<br>\nclear in several days,\" Gambir police chief Maj. T. Agus. S. told<br>\nThe Jakarta Post at the accident scene.<\/p>\n<p>Laborers painting from nearby gondolas, however, speculated<br>\nthat the accident may have resulted from the four workers'<br>\nrecklessness.<\/p>\n<p>\"Perhaps they pushed the 'up' button for too long. The machine<br>\nprobably moved to the top and as you can see the end of the iron<br>\ntrack is open. Nothing stopped the car from derailing and falling<br>\nonce it reached the end,\" explained one worker.<\/p>\n<p>Gondola are operated by workers on the platform by pushing the<br>\nup and down buttons.<\/p>\n<p>Other witnesses said the four were \"playing around\" when the<br>\ngondola reached the top.<\/p>\n<p>They reportedly did not wear the safety belts provided on the<br>\nplatform.<\/p>\n<p>Police questioned yesterday several workers from PT Painting<br>\nContractor including Hermanto, the four workers' supervisor, and<br>\nhis superior Hariandi.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they will also question PT Gondola, the company<br>\nreportedly in charge of fixing the gondolas at the hotel, to<br>\ndetermine what caused the accident.
