        "content": "<p>Painter angered by planned tax<\/p>\n<p>DENPASAR, Bali: The owner of the Museum of Classical Balinese<br>\nPaintings, Nyoman Gunarsa, has threatened to sell 517 paintings<br>\nfrom his 30-year-old collection and turn the museum into a<br>\nbusiness if he has to pay tax.<\/p>\n<p>\"If taxes are imposed on my museum, I will sell my collection,<br>\nincluding the centuries-old classical Balinese paintings,\" he<br>\nsaid Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He was quoted by Antara as saying that museums should not have<br>\nto pay tax.<\/p>\n<p>He said he recently got a letter from the local tax office<br>\nasking him to pay land and building tax on his museum or produce<br>\na decree from the Minister of Education and Culture on the<br>\nestablishment of his museum.<\/p>\n<p>He later received a similar letter from the Directorate<br>\nGeneral for Taxation's director of Land and Buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Gunarsa's museum is Indonesia's only collector of classical<br>\nBalinese paintings.<\/p>",
