        "content": "<p>Padang transportation paralyzed<\/p>\n<p>PADANG, West Sumatra: Thousands of Padang commuters reached<br>\ntheir destinations on foot on Tuesday as the city's public<br>\ntransportation system was paralyzed by a public minivan driver<br>\nstrike.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers' strike began Monday to press their demands to the<br>\ncity administration to increase public transportation fares<br>\nfollowing a recent hike in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers parked their minivans along the main roads and<br>\nencouraged other minivans to join them. In some parts of the city<br>\nthey stoned the windows of operating minivans and forced the<br>\npassengers out.<\/p>\n<p>This action triggered a fight among the drivers, leaving at<br>\nleast five vehicles damaged.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers criticized the city administration's slow response<br>\nin accommodating their demand as they had waited for eleven days<br>\nfor appropriate action.<\/p>\n<p>\"We can not make ends meet since the public transportation<br>\nowners still demand the same daily fee of Rp 90,000 and leave us<br>\naround Rp 30,000,\" Daril, one of the minivan drivers said. --JP<\/p>",
