Overseas OJT registration opens<\/p>\n
At least 30 workers from companies operating in the city will
\nbe sent to Japan early next year to take part in an on the job
\ntraining (OJT) program jointly sponsored by the Jakarta and Tokyo
\nMetropolitan City administrations, the City Manpower Office
\nannounced yesterday.<\/p>\n
Suhatman, the head of the office, said the registration for
\nthe 15-month long on the job training program opens from June 6
\nthrough July 15.<\/p>\n
Interested applicants should register at City Manpower Office
\non Jl. Cikini Raya No. 75, Central Jakarta, during working hours
\nand produce photocopies of their IDs, letters of recommendation
\nfrom their companies and high school diplomas.<\/p>\n
Suhatman said all applicants have to be residents of Jakarta,
\nbe between 25 and 29 years of age, have a minimum of two years of
\nwork experience and must pass selection tests.<\/p>\n
"This is the sixth OJT program," Suhatman said, adding that
\nthe 30 participants who passed the tests would be expected to
\nleave the city for Tokyo in January.<\/p>\n
Jakarta has sent more than 100 workers to Japan to take part
\nin an on-the-job training program since the signing of the sister
\ncity agreement between Jakarta and Tokyo on Oct. 23, 1989.<\/p>\n
During their 15 month stay in Japan, the participants will be
\nplaced in several companies according to vocational training they
\nwill receive, such as electrical installation, printing work and
\ncar repair.<\/p>\n
"In addition, the participants will have to take three months
\ncourse in Japanese language and culture in Jakarta before they
\nleave," said Suhatman. He explained that all costs related to the
\non-the-job training program will be jointly shared by the Jakarta
\nand Tokyo Metropolitan City administrations. (has)<\/p>",
