Over 6m dropouts in recent years<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Over six million school-aged children across the
\ncountry have dropped out of school recently, according to the
\nUnited Nations Children's Fund (Unicef).<\/p>\n
"They do not have the necessary education or skills to later
\ncompete in the job market and therefore will find themselves in
\ndesperate economic trouble," Unicef country representative Steven
\nAllen said here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He did not explain why the number of children dropping out of
\nschool was so high, but stressed that a lack of education and
\nskill could easily lead children and young people into commercial
\nexploitation or trafficking.<\/p>\n
Unicef, in cooperation with a local hotel group, organizes the
\nso-called Youth Career Development Program -- a six-month
\ntraining program aimed at providing dropouts with vocational
\nskills.<\/p>\n
The trainees will be trained in housekeeping, food and
\nbeverage services, laundry, fruit carving and English. --JP<\/p>",
