Over 100 infants undernourished<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: More than 100 infants here aged under five years
\nhave been found in the past four months to suffer from
\nmalnutrition, 36 of them needing intensive treatment, an official
\nsaid on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Head of provincial health office Mochamad Harsono said the
\nmalnourished children had been admitted to hospitals. The
\ngovernment will pay their medical fees with money allocated from
\nthe state budget for the social safety net program.<\/p>\n
"We expect the number will increase because many more cases
\nmay not have been detected," Harsono said, adding that the search
\nfor malnourished infants was still underway.<\/p>\n
He said most of the children came from families who had been
\naffected by the economic turmoil. "Many of the families can no
\nlonger make a living after losing their jobs," he said.<\/p>\n
The provincial administration has dispatched aid packages to
\nthe malnourished babies. Each package includes 60 kilograms of
\nrice, a box of instant noodles and ketchup. (44)<\/p>",
