        "content": "<p>Our professional doctors?<\/p>\n<p>Recommended by a friend of my son, I went to an<br>\notorminolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat - THT - specialist)<br>\nat a THT clinic run by a private foundation on Jl. Ciranjang,<br>\nKebayoran Baru, on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in the evening.<\/p>\n<p>When I confirmed on Wednesday morning -- by phone -- I was<br>\ntold by the receptionist that the specialist would be available<br>\nat 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived at the clinic at about 7 p.m. in the hopes that I<br>\ncould get early treatment. There were several patients sitting in<br>\nthe waiting room when I arrived.<\/p>\n<p>After waiting for one hour, I got no guarantee if the would be<br>\navailable, and no one at the clinic could explain why the doctor<br>\nhad not yet appeared.<\/p>\n<p>A nurse then told me that the doctor had finished surgery at 4<br>\np.m. (on Wednesday), and that \"he could be sleeping, now, so none<br>\nof us (employees) would dare call him.\"<\/p>\n<p>More surprisingly, she told me that the doctor's residence was<br>\njust behind the clinic!<\/p>\n<p>I decided to leave the clinic soon to get another specialist<br>\nafter I had waited for one hour without any explanation.<\/p>\n<p>It made me start to wonder about the professionalism of such<br>\npeople. Isn't surgery a normal part of his professional<br>\nresponsibility, and aren't the patients at the clinic also his<br>\nprofessional responsibility?<\/p>\n<p>Why didn't the doctor at least try to let the waiting patients<br>\nknow why he failed to appear just to show his attention and<br>\nresponsibility to his patients? He could have simply asked<br>\nsomebody to let the clinic know why he was late.<\/p>\n<p>While obviously ignoring the patients' time wasted waiting for<br>\nhim for at least one hour (without any explanation), the doctor<br>\nhas demonstrated his arrogance and negligence.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to ask all doctors, especially those who consider<br>\nthemselves professionally established and well-off, to have more<br>\nempathy for their patients.<\/p>\n<p>Don't forget that your patients play significant roles in the<br>\nlife, or death, of your career.<\/p>\n<p>SOERYO WINOTO, Tangerang, Banten<\/p>",
