After more than 50 years of independence Indonesia now has
\nmany intellectuals and thinkers. The situation is clearly
\ndifferent from conditions 60 to 65 years ago. At the time
\nwhatever a leader said was trusted and accepted.<\/p>\n
The situation has now changed. Everything must be studied and
\nanalyzed to see if it is logical and true. Discussions and
\ndifferences in opinion are common.<\/p>\n
Now many politicians having different views from the
\ngovernment, must stand trial. I do not know them. Trying them in
\ncourt requires caution because although we are independent and
\nfree in implementing our policies, we also have relations with
\nthe rest of the world.<\/p>\n
Those countries are also free to continue, reduce or stop
\ncooperating with Indonesia. The international world knows the
\npoliticians with views that differ from the government. It also
\nknow who the political detainees are.<\/p>\n
This situation must be stooped before our country declines
\nlike several other Asian nations which want to join ASEAN but
\nhave not yet succeeded.<\/p>\n
Democracy, human rights and environmental matters have become
\nthe focus of world attention.<\/p>\n
In Indonesia, it is expected that corruption and collusion can
\nbe eliminated indiscriminately and that progress is made in the
\nimplementation of democracy, human rights and environmental
\npolicies.<\/p>\n
