The Ombudsman Republic of Indonesia (ORI) Representative for DIY\ndirectly inspected the activities at the TPS 3R in Padukuhan Sokowaten,\nTamanan, Bantul, today. This followed complaints from residents about\nthe site\u2019s alleged environmental pollution.<\/p>\n
The Head of the ORI DIY Representative, Muflihul Hadi, explained that\nthe team descended today alongside the residents\u2019 legal representatives\nand SLBN 2 Bantul from IDEA, WALHI, and LBH. They requested additional\ndata and documents, including confirming reports and gathering other\ninformation from residents, the school, and the TPS 3R site.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe met with the school, surrounding residents, and parents today\nwith IDEA, WALHI, and LBH to request data and documents, confirm\nreports, and dig for other information,\u201d said Muflihul when contacted by\nreporters on Tuesday (21\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
He explained that after obtaining data from residents, the team\nproceeded to the TPS 3R site. From the monitoring results, some rubbish\nhad already been cleared.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to statements from residents, the school, and parents, the\nsmell today was not as pungent as usual, for the short term,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, there are still issues that need to be addressed and\nresolved, particularly regarding the TPS 3R site\u2019s location adjacent to\nthe school.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the long term, regarding the location close to the school, we\nwill discuss and seek solutions with the Bantul Regency government,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
In addition to the odour problem, the team also checked the condition\nof residents\u2019 wells. In the complaint submitted yesterday, it was\nclaimed that residents\u2019 wells were contaminated, allegedly from the\nwaste processing site.<\/p>\n
Preliminary findings revealed one well with murky water. However,\nresidents still use the well water for bathing. Nevertheless, this needs\nfurther investigation to determine if the murkiness is due to\ninsufficient depth or proximity to the river.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also checked residents\u2019 wells around the TPS 3R today. There is\none building or house with murky water but no odour, and it has been\nused for daily needs like bathing with no problems,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n
At the TPS site, the ORI team also found remnants of burning, which\naccording to TPS 3R staff were done by residents, not the staff.<\/p>\n
Another finding was piles of rubbish on the riverbank, which have the\npotential to pollute and make the river shallow.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the site, there was a trial of the incinerator machine, so it is\nhoped that if it runs smoothly, all incoming rubbish after sorting will\nbe burned by the machine, thus not causing pungent smells,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, ORI DIY will schedule a meeting with relevant parties\nfor further clarification.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will discuss it in the next meeting with the Environmental Agency\nand related parties. We plan for next week,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
Previously reported, representatives from Padukuhan Sokowaten\nresidents, Tamanan, Bantul, along with SLBN 2 Bantul, lodged a complaint\nwith the ORI DIY Representative regarding alleged environmental\npollution from TPS 3R activities. The complaint was filed because the\npollution impacts were deemed to disrupt residents\u2019 health and teaching\nactivities at the school.<\/p>\n
IDEA Executive Director and legal representative for residents and\nthe school, Ahmad Hedar, said the pollution impacts had been felt for a\nlong time but were only now reported officially as the conditions were\nconsidered increasingly severe.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far, they have been holding it in, including many soft efforts\nlike lobbying through the Education Agency, the Environmental Agency,\nand even the village office,\u201d said Hedar when met at the ORI DIY\nRepresentative office in Depok, Sleman, on Monday (20\/4).<\/p>\n
He explained that the pollution comes from burning residues at TPS\n3R. The impacts disrupt teaching activities at SLBN 2 Bantul.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe residues from rubbish burning happen almost every day.
