Oracle launches new product<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: PT Oracle Indonesia started on Wednesday a marketing
\ncampaign for its latest data-based collaboration software
\nproduct, which is expected to challenge the products made by IBM
\nand Microsoft, the leading industry players here.<\/p>\n
Oracle vice president Christopher Hummel said in a press
\nconference that the company's 400 corporate clients would be the
\nmain market target for the new software product.<\/p>\n
He declined to disclose the sales target.<\/p>\n
The product, called Oracle Collaboration Suite, enables an
\nintegration of e-mail, voicemail, file system support, calendar,

SINGAPORE: The Hong Kong Airport Authority may follow Taiwan and
\nSingapore in reducing costs to help airlines weather the
\ndevastating fallout from the SARS outbreak, a regional airline
\ngrouping said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) has singled
\nout the Hong Kong airport operator for keeping landing and other
\nfees unchanged despite heavy losses by the region's carriers as
\npeople cancel travel plans for fear of catching the sometimes
\nfatal SARS virus.<\/p>\n
\"From contacts we have had with the Hong Kong Airport
\nAuthority, we are reasonably confident that they will follow the
\nexample of others and offer the same concessions to the
\nairlines,\" said AAPA director-general Richard Stirland.<\/p>\n
Following an appeal by AAPA, which groups 17 regional
\nairlines, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore announced a
\n30 percent rebate on aircraft landing fees for carriers using
\nChangi Airport and the smaller Seletar Airport from May 1 to
\nDecember 31.<\/p>\n
Taiwan on April 15 also announced cuts in fees and rents for

BANGKOK: Thailand's main airport operator plans to launch its
\ninitial public offering (IPO) by the third quarter of this year,
\na report said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Airports of Thailand (AOT) managing director Bancha
\nPattanaporn told the Business Day newspaper that market
\nconditions were expected to return to normalcy by then.<\/p>\n
\"We would like to push on with the plan as war in Iraq is
\nlikely to end soon, and as the deadly SARS (Severe Acute
\nRespiratory Syndrome) outbreak subsides,\" Bancha was quoted as
\nsaying.<\/p>\n
The company, formerly the Airport Authority of Thailand, would
\nuse the IPO proceeds to finance construction of the country's new
\nSuvarnabhumi International Airport, which is scheduled to open in
\n2005, Bancha added.<\/p>\n
The AOT postponed its share offering in October last year, a
\nmonth before it was due to list, because of weak market
\nconditions.<\/p>\n
The company controls the airports of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat
\nYai, Phuket and Chiang Rai, all of which serve international

SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines will retire its fleet of Airbus
\naircraft earlier than planned, reflecting the flight capacity
\ncuts being implemented amid the SARS health scare, the carrier
\nsaid on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
SIA stopped using A340-300s last week and will retire its
\nremaining nine Airbus aircraft by June, said a statement from the
\ncompany, which has 12 Airbus aircraft in its fleet.<\/p>\n
\"With the revision of the flight schedules, we stopped flying
\nthe three A340-300 left in the fleet with effect from 15 April,
\n2003,\" SIA said.<\/p>\n
\"The remaining nine A310-300s will be phased out by June, five
\nmonths earlier than originally planned. This is in line with our
\nearlier announcements about capacity cuts and rescaling of
\noperations,\" it said.<\/p>\n
SIA, along with other major carriers in Asia including Hong
\nKong-based Cathay Pacific and Australia's Qantas, has been
\nseverely affected by the health scare spawned by the Severe Acute
