Universitas Terbuka (UT) aims to serve 1 million students within the\nnext two years. This target has been set as the current number of UT\nstudents has reached 856,444.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is part of our effort to ensure that in one to two years, we\nwill be capable, worthy, and fit to serve 1 million students,\u201d said the\nRector of UT, Ali Muktiyanto, at UTCC, South Tangerang, on Friday\n(4\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
Ali stated that UT was established from the outset to expand access\nto higher education, making it reachable by the public without being\nlimited by space or time. After more than four decades, the number of\nstudents served demonstrates the vast demand for a flexible higher\neducation model.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis scale demonstrates UT\u2019s strategic role in providing higher\neducation that is open, flexible, technology-based, and accessible\nwithout spatial or temporal boundaries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Ali, UT\u2019s future challenges involve not only expanding\neducational access but also increasing the quality of innovation and\nservices for students. This has become a primary focus for UT as it\nenters its 4th decade of operation.<\/p>\n
This spirit served as the theme for the peak event of UT\u2019s 42nd\nAnniversary, \u201cGoing Global with Innovation, Impacting the Nation,\u201d held\nat the UT Centre, South Tangerang.<\/p>\n
The event marked the conclusion of the series of activities for UT\u2019s\n42nd Anniversary and the 2026 National Disporseni. The series of\nactivities included academic, social, sporting, artistic, and innovation\nagendas, as well as award presentations.<\/p>\n
The programme was also directed towards UT\u2019s three main pillars:\nincreasing academic prestige, expanding reach and student services, and\nenhancing the quality and capacity of governance.<\/p>\n
During this momentum, UT also launched the UT Jakarta 2 application.\nThe event coincided with the launch of the 42nd UT Anniversary Book and\nthe Non-Teaching Material Book (BNBA).<\/p>\n
Ali noted that UT\u2019s 42-year journey shows that open education\ncontinues to evolve in line with societal needs. The expansion of\neducational access must be accompanied by service innovation so that\nmore members of the public have the opportunity to learn and grow.<\/p>\n
